Thank you for your interest in applying for one of our positions as a professional caricature artist.
We are seeking creative individuals who are out-going, friendly, customer service oriented, dependable, trustworthy and have artistic abilities. Our caricature artists work with many families and must enjoy being around children. As our artists work with the general public, it’s important that you appear clean and professional. In order to work for Goofy Faces, you must be at least 17 years old and have reliable transportation. Artists typically work a flexible schedule of 2 to 5 days per week, including weekends when our stands are the busiest.
As soon as you have successfully completed the new hire on-boarding process, you will have the opportunity to work flexible hours at the venue for which you applied. At most of our locations, the hours are 9AM to 5PM. Many of our locations are open for business year-round while others are open for a limited season. Year-round locations are open every weekend and most weekdays, whenever school is out. Seasonal locations are open on weekends starting around Easter. From around Memorial Day to the Labor Day weekend, our retail stands are open on a daily basis. Then we return to weekends-only until Halloween.
We currently have retail art stands at 8 major attractions throughout the USA that offer caricatures. Prices for caricatures differ by location; from as low as $17 to as much as $27 per drawing. As an independent contractor, Goofy Faces will be one of your clients. As a freelance caricature artist, you earn a sales commission. The more caricatures you sell, the more you will earn. Your commission rate will be determined before you begin drawing caricatures for Goofy Faces. Your commission rate can range between 25% to 45% based on your position, skill-level and experience. New artists quickly earn increases as their skill level and performance improves. In addition to sales commission, all artists are eligible to earn bonus commissions based on meeting daily sales goals. Your manager will provide you with weekday and weekend sales goals. On average, our caricature artists earn between $20 to $35/HR based on their sales commissions. In addition, artists can receive bonuses and tips from customers. Your payments are mailed to your address or deposited directly to your bank account weekly after your first 2 weeks of drawing caricatures.
When the attendance is high at our locations, caricatures are very popular. To maximize your commission, be prepared to draw at a fast pace. Our talented artists typically complete a black and white caricature of a face in approximately six minutes. Weekends are busiest. Each of our locations requires our artists to wear a Goofy Faces polo with khaki pants or shorts. After you get started, you will be required to provide your own markers and pastels. Crayola Black Markers and Caran NeoColor I pastels can be purchased from Amazon. Also, we book most of our artists for events at each location by the hour. ($85 - $110 per hour!)
Providing quality caricatures to guests visting a zoo, aquarium or park is a lot of fun for everyone. Many of our caricaturists return every season to work for us, year after year. In addition to your retail hours, you will have the opportunity to perform hourly gigs that we book in your area as well. All gigs are paid an hourly wage based on regional rates and years of experience ($85 to $110/HR). Since all our artists are independent contractors, you are encouraged to grow your craft by pursuing additional opportunities outside your work schedule. Many of our artists earn a great living year-round by drawing caricatures at corporate functions, weddings, parties, mitzvahs, kids’ events and festivals.
