Step 1: Determine the type of event you’re hosting
There are so many different ideas to choose from. Here are just a few:

Step 2: Set a budget
Take your time determining how much your event or party is going to cost. A few things to consider:
- Venue
- Food
- Drinks
- Staff
- Invitations
- Entertainment
- Permits (only if the location needs them)
- Clean up costs
Step 3: Determine the date
Choosing a date for your party might seem like a very daunting task especially since there are 365 days to choose from. But it’s actually much easier than you might think! Here are a few things to consider when deciding what date to host:
- Know your guest list
- Skip popular vacation times
- Consider the holidays (don’t forget bank holidays)
- Think about potential weather and climate changes
- Talk with your vendors and venues about availability
Step 4: Pick a location
It is never too early to begin searching for your event venue. Always consider the following:
- Location
- Parking
- Capacity
- Venue Layout
- Venues services and amenities
If you are concerned it’s too late to find a venue, don’t be. Venues always have last minute openings, changes, or cancellations.
Step 5: Create a guest list
Remember to always keep a few things in mind like budget and venue capacities. But for an event like a wedding, a good rule of thumb is to invite immediate family members (parents, grandparents, siblings, uncles, aunts, and cousins), close friends, and significant others.

Step 7: Send invites to guests
It is best to send party invitations three weeks before parties like birthdays and general celebrations. But it is recommended to send invitations six to eight weeks for large events and weddings.
Step 8: Shop for decor
There is no better place to look for party decor inspiration than here! But when it comes time to shop, make sure to remember to stick to your predetermined budget. Do not forget to shop around for items that are on sale.
Step 9: Determine the food and drink menu
Pro tip: An adult will consume roughly one pound of food total and children will consume about a 1/2 pound. The more options you have the less you need of each. Don’t forget guests always eat and drink more in the evening than during the day.

What do you think about when someone says “coaster?” The ever-present drink coaster as we know them today has been around nearly 140 years!
A Brief History
In 1880 Friedrich Horn, a German printing company, designed the first cardboard beer mats, as they are sometimes called. Shortly after, the Robert Sputh Company of Dresden started making them out of wood pulp.
Today you can find drink coasters protecting tables and bars from condensation in nearly every bar, restaurant and home. They come in many materials, including wood, cardboard, bamboo, cork, marble, sandstone, slate and unglazed ceramics. The best drink coasters are porous and absorb condensation from the glass.
